Scabies and Personal Hygiene
Everyone has a different idea of what personal hygiene means. For the most part, if you are clean, you are good to go. Everybody is different, however, and some need to work harder than others to remain clean and sweet smelling. Sometimes, your body can work against you, or perhaps you have gotten the wrong product. Most people won’t come out and tell you that you stink though, so you have to make an effort to keep your personal hygiene efforts up to par.
We all struggle with personal hygiene when we hit puberty. Suddenly, it’s not as easy as it once was. Hormones cause all sorts of problem, and one of the first ones is underarm odor. There is no warning when this area suddenly becomes active, and many are caught unaware. Parents often catch the problem, or warn their children early, but that doesn’t always happen. A teen’s first personal hygiene product, other than soap of course, might be deodorant. The problem with deodorant is that not all types work for all people. This means you may have to try a few before you find one that works for you.
Girls often have mixed feelings about personal hygiene. They feel self conscious about their bodies and the changes they are going through, and some teenagers get so paranoid that they buy everything on the shelf. This can be expensive, and this is when parents, especially moms, need to help their daughters understand what is necessary and what is not. A lot of the feminine products on the shelf are not needed, and in fact, can disrupt the natural balance of the body. This can bring about a whole new set of problems for them.
Teens struggling with personal hygiene today are lucky to have the Internet. When they look online for information on personal hygiene, they can do so without embarrassment or talking to their parents. Though some of the information they may see may not be accurate, they are usually smart enough to figure it out. Personal hygiene is a touchy subject, and no one wants to be the kid at school that stinks. If your teen seems to be struggling with personal hygiene, show them some websites and then let them be. It depends on the kid, of course, but they may thank you for letting them figure it out on their own with out a hugely embarrassing conversation.
