Tips to Stop Drug Abuse
Fifteen years ago, I was in high school and the biggest thing on our minds was sports and who was dating whom. Nowadays, students have so much more to worry about and are faced with so much more peer pressure. Sex is much more commonplace, underage drinking occurs no matter where you live, and drug abuse is taking control of some lives. I used to think of people who took drugs as looking scruffy and having blood shot eyes. There are so many drugs out there now that you'd never suspect someone of being on. Sure, the classic heroin and cocaine addicts may catch your attention, but more modern drugs allow people to hide it so much easier. Drug abuse is becoming so much more common for so many reasons, including the fact that it is much easier to get drugs now. What is even more surprising is that drug abuse isn't just confined to the youthful anymore. More and more parents are discovering how much more they can get accomplished if they have a bit of an extra boost. Crystal meth, a drug that is rapidly sweeping
the nation and taking control of many lives, has become the drug of choice for both adults and youths. Compared to some of the drugs that are found today, crystal meth is considerably less expensive, making it much more popular.
What people are failing to realize is that drug abuse affects so many more people than just the abuser. Drug abuse can rip families apart and destroy relationships. Not to mention the fact that someone under the influence of drugs can get behind the wheel and end up ruining the lives of complete strangers. Recently, there was a horrible accident in my neighborhood. A man who was incredibly high on cocaine decided to take a drive with his six-month old son in the backseat. He never noticed a red light and ended up crashing into a car with a young married couple in it. Their one-month old son was in the backseat. In that one instant, his drug abuse killed his own son and the entire family in the other car. Miraculously, the drug abuser was the only one who survived. He barely had scratches on him. Drug abuse ruled his life and ultimately destroyed his own family and the other family's as well. No matter how many times he apologies, he can't escape the fact that his drug abuse changed life for him and many
others in one single moment.
