The Truth About Attention Deficit
I have lived with attention deficit my whole life, though it is not just me that has the problem. Both of my brothers had it, and the eldest of the two had it before any of the doctors really knew what was going on. To say that he was a bad case is an understatement, but back then, he was just labeled a bad kid and no one thought there was a reason why he was the way he was. He had a lot of problems and if someone had just thought perhaps there was more to it than meets the eye, he would have had a better life all the way around.
I know I have attention deficit even though I have never been diagnosed. My brothers both have it and many of my cousins did as well. It is something that runs in families and I know that to be very true. Though they know more about attention deficit today, they are not dealing with it very well. I wish I had known why I could never concentrate and why I do some of the things that I do today. Work, for me, is a struggle, and to make good use of my time is harder for me than it is for most people.
My attention deficit is not as bad as what my brothers had, but it makes my life hard at times. I just have to deal with it, and I have learned some things to help me think harder and work better. I know that I must take frequent breaks. If I don’t, I often stall out when I have a deadline and that makes things all the harder for me to do. Having attention deficit and trying to concentrate is one thing, having it and trying to catch up is quite another. My mind is always working and sometimes that paralyzes me and I have to stop what I am doing and clear my mind.
Attention deficit has a hold on a lot of the aspects of my life, but understand what is going on makes it easier to deal with and overcome. You don’t have to let it run your life, but you do have to work with it. Attention deficit causes problems in my social, work, and personal life, but they are all minor things if I know what is going on. The more you understand what is going on the easier it is to deal with. If you or your child has this condition, do all the research you can. Once you know what you are fighting, the easier the battle will be.
