Nothing Can Outweigh The Benefit Of Antioxidant Loaded Foods

Antioxidants are the good guys. They're like little warriors inside our bodies fighting off the bad guys, the free radicals that come around after cells are exposed to oxygen while performing their normal functions. Since cells aren't eligible for Workman's Compensation, it's up to us to either prevent the damage in the first place (safety in the workplace) or repair that damage as soon as it occurs (sick leave).

Benefits of Antioxidants

Actually, all we have to do is sit back and eat and enjoy the benefit of antioxidant loaded foods. Some antioxidants prevent the cell damage while others repair the cells after they've been damaged. Some antioxidants are thought to prevent cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and other serious diseases.

One antioxidant, vitamin C, removes free radicals from inside the cell. When these free radicals are allowed to stay within the cells, they and the damage they create multiply, thus resulting in a "domino effect" of cell damage.

Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene, which the liver stores and turns into vitamin A as needed, protect cell membranes.

While not all vitamins are antioxidants, all vitamins do have a job to do and preventing and repairing cell damage is of the utmost importance. Since we cannot rely on the same restorative effects from vitamin and antioxidant supplements, it is essential that we consume enough of the disease-fighting warriors through our diet.

Another outstanding benefit of antioxidant rich foods is that antioxidants delay age-related diseases such as macular degeneration which is the number one cause of blindness in the elderly. For those who constantly seek to put off the aging process, this is a huge freebie! Imagine the sight that could be saved if people would heed the benefits of antioxidants and good nutrition in general.

There are several other age-related diseases whose processes can be halted or at least slowed down by a diet rich in antioxidants. Another visual malady, cataracts, which routinely develop in the elderly, can be stymied by the benefits of antioxidants.

Impressive Results

Statistics prove we are living longer today than ever before and while there may be several reasons for that, antioxidants that prevent or repair cell damage that is associated with cancer, heart disease and stroke are to be counted among those reasons.

Not only can we live longer by taking advantage of these disease-fighting antioxidants, but quality of life is drastically improved with the positive effects against Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and cognitive thinking in general.

As a society we are guilty over and over again of going for the "quick fix" and anything that promises "instant gratification". We are so used to popping a pill to solve all of our ailments that to some, simply eating right sounds too simple! It must be noted however, that the benefit of antioxidant supplements have not been evaluated by the FDA and even more important, cannot replicate with 100% accuracy the anti-oxidative processes taking place within our bodies.

After all, when was the last time you saw a disclaimer sticker on an orange, a banana or a tomato? You cannot invent genuine and sadly, you cannot bottle it either.
